Friday afternoon Johanna, Rosalind, Gustav, Erin, and I drove to Mokolodi Game Reserve right outside of Gabs to go on a safari around the park. For only 100 Pula or $20US, I spent 2 hours on the reserve, in nature, and surrounded by the most beautiful animals.
I saw: Rhino, Impala, Heartabeast, Gollume, Elephants, Giraffes, Birds, Hippos, Monkeys, and Johanna's favorite, the Warthog.
My animal spelling is quite challenged, but what counts is that I remember vividly the grace they embody while out in nature.
While bobbing along in the safari jeep, I remember looking around and feeling an overwhelming sense of how blessed I am. After tomorrow, I have been to/through 13 countries. And the list is sure to grow. But to be riding through the African landscape, admiring the beauty all around me, the tall hills and plateaus in the distance, the watering hole, the vibrant red-breasted bird in the bush... how many 19 year olds can say they have done that.
I am so thankful for Rosalind and her faith in little undergraduate me to take me all the way to Africa, for my parents who are so encouraging of all of my global adventure dreams, for my friends who sometimes get so excited at all that I'm doing that the lightbulb in my head goes off and says, "Hey! You are doing cool things!"
